Indian Nanoelectronics Users Program (INUP)


Indian Nanoelectronics Users' Programme (INUP) is an initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India to harness nationwide research and development activities in the realm of nanoelectronics. To promote the program, state-of-art nanofabrication facilities of international standards; the 'Centres of Excellence in Nanoelectronics (CEN)' are established at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc). INUP encourages external users' participation and their utilization of the facilities established at CEN. The second phase of INUP commenced in 2014 with an aim to continue further the support and generation of expertise and knowledge in nanoelectronics.

Vision

To facilitate and support the generation of expertise and knowledge in nanoelectronics through participation and utilization of the facilities established at the Centre of Excellence in Nanoelectronics at IISc and IITB by external users.

Objectives

Nanoelectronics training to researchers from different institutions in India

To extend the reach of nanoelectronics by organizing workshops at IISc and IITB as well as different locations, especially remote areas in the country,

To invite topical and theme based proposals from researchers time to time,

To encourage and promote projects in which researchers and faculty/ students from different institutions collaborate.

Types of Programs offered under INUP

There are three kinds of interaction with external users for the Nanoelectronics facilities at IITB:


Medium-term projects:

Medium-term projects duration is 3-24 months and may involve device modelling or fabrication or characterization, or a combination of two or more of these aspects.


Short-term measurements/ fabrication:

Short-term projects duration is 1 week - 3 months and may involve device modelling or fabrication or characterization, or a combination of two or more of these aspects.


Services:

Projects which involve a unit process/ measurement and can be completed within a week are treated as services.

Salient Features

INUP organizes various training programs at IITB for all potential users across the country in the area of nanofabrication/ characterization/ simulation techniques. Researchers comprising of faculty, students (M.Tech./ Ph.D.), scientists and engineers from academic and research institutions are trained at three different levels.


Level 1- Familiarization workshops are conducted to provide awareness of Nanoelectronics and exposure to facilities available at the IITBNF. These workshops are organized to disseminate the outcome of the research activities and also provide a platform for peer review of the research output of the program. Workshops are also conducted at distant locations in the country. In a year, two workshops are conducted at IITB and one at a remote location.


Level 2- Training is provided to selected researchers from outside agencies on nanofabrication/ characterization/ simulation techniques. IITB holds six such training sessions in a year. Hands on training workshop are organized on the following different themes:



Level 3- Selected projects proposed by researchers are executed at IITBNF. It is mandatory to attend hands-on training session before implementation of the project. INUP provides the required support and expert guidance in execution and completion of the projects.
